A UAE business visa is an official permit that allows foreign nationals to enter the UAE for business-related purposes, covering both short-term trips to long-term residency tied to company ownership or investment.

A UAE business visa lets foreign nationals enter, work, or establish residency for business purposes. The cost of a UAE business visa starts from AED 350 for a short-term visit visa to AED 15,000+ for a Golden Visa, with processing taking 2 to 60 working days depending on your visa type.

UAE Business Visa Eligibility

UAE business visa eligibility refers to the specific eligibility criteria a foreign national must meet before applying for any business-related visa or residency permit in the UAE. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) sets these criteria, and they apply whether you are a foreign national applying from abroad or already inside the country.

To qualify for a UAE business visa, you generally need to meet the following conditions:

  • Age: You must be at least 18 years old.

  • Valid passport: Your passport must carry a minimum validity of 6 months from your intended date of entry.

  • Proof of business activity or investment: This includes a trade license, business registration certificate, shareholding documents, or other records that verify your professional role, commercial activity, or business interest in the UAE.

  • Sufficient funds: Bank statements covering 3 to 6 months that confirm you have the financial means to cover your stay and support your business activities.

  • Health insurance: Valid health insurance covering the UAE is required for residence visa applications.

  • Clean background: A good conduct certificate and clear criminal record check form part of the standard verification process.

  • Purpose of visit documentation: This could be an invitation letter from a UAE-based sponsor, a conference registration confirmation, or an employment offer letter.

  • Accommodation proof: Confirmed accommodation arrangements, such as a hotel booking or tenancy contract.

  • Passport photographs: Recent passport-sized photos taken against a white background.

Some visa categories carry additional requirements:

  • Investor or partner visas: Proof of capital investment, a share certificate, or documented ownership in a UAE company.

  • Golden Visa: A qualifying real estate investment of AED 2 million or more, or an equivalent business or approved fund investment.

  • Green Visa: Educational qualifications, a professional license, and proof of annual income above AED 360,000 (for freelancers) or employment in a defined specialty occupation (for skilled professionals).

  • Freelance Visa: A valid freelance permit issued by a UAE-recognized free zone or authority.

What are the UAE Business Visa Types?

The UAE offers seven main business visa types, split between short-term visit visas and long-term residence visas.

1. Short-Term Visit Visa

A short-term business visit visa is the right choice if you are traveling to the UAE for meetings, trade shows, conferences, or initial market exploration. It comes in two forms:

  • Single-entry visit visa: Allows one entry for a stay of 30 or 90 days. It suits focused, one-off business trips.

  • Multi-entry visit visa: Lets you enter and exit the UAE multiple times over a set validity period, with each stay capped at 30, 60, or 90 days. This is cost-effective for investors who visit the UAE repeatedly throughout the year.

Citizens of more than 80 countries receive visa-on-arrival or visa-free access to the UAE, so check your passport eligibility before applying separately.

2. Mission Visa

The mission visa is a short-term permit issued for specific business assignments or temporary employment projects. Companies use it when bringing in foreign professionals for urgent or project-based work. Once the assignment ends, the visa holder is expected to exit or transition to a longer-term permit.

3. Investor Visa

The investor visa is the most common UAE business visa type for entrepreneurs and business owners setting up a company. It is sponsored either by a mainland LLC company owned by the applicant, or by a free zone authority if the business is incorporated in a free zone.

If you are setting up in a Sharjah free zone, the free zone authority issues your investor visa directly and manages your visa quota based on the license and office space you take up.

Key features:

  • Valid for 2 to 3 years, with renewal available upon trade license renewal.
  • Allows you to sponsor family members for UAE residency.
  • Linked directly to the company’s active trade license.
  • Gives you access to UAE banking and financial services, including bank account opening once your residency is in place.
  • Free zone visa quotas vary based on your license type and office space allocation.

4. Green Visa

The Green Visa was introduced as part of the UAE’s 2022 residency reforms as a common business or investor visa for people who want to own business operations in the UAE. It targets skilled professionals, qualified freelancers, and small investors who want UAE residency without needing an employer or national sponsor.

This setup path is one of the more flexible long term visas for people building a presence in the country.

Key features:

  • Valid for 5 years and works as a self sponsored visa.
  • Open to skilled workers, freelancers, and investors or business partners who meet minimum capital thresholds.
  • Freelancers need a valid freelance permit and proof of annual income above AED 360,000, or a relevant university degree.
  • Skilled employees need to work in a specialty occupation above a defined salary threshold.
  • If you lose your job or freelance status, you receive a 180-day grace period to regularize your situation.

The Green Visa works well for remote entrepreneurs, self-employed professionals, independent professionals, and small business owners who want stability without being tied to a single employer or sponsor.

Sponsorship and company setup depend on whether the business is incorporated as a Mainland company or a Free Zone company. In many cases, a local sponsor is generally not required under modern ownership rules, especially where the UAE offers 100% foreign ownership of companies.

In Sharjah and other free zones, free zones in the UAE offer full foreign ownership and tax incentives for businesses. Indicative setup costs are around AED 12,900 to 25,000 for a Free Zone company and AED 25,000 to 40,000 for a Mainland company.

5. Golden Visa

The UAE Golden Visa is a long term residency visa introduced under the 2022 residency reforms for high-value investors, talented professionals, outstanding students, and proven entrepreneurs. It is the most prestigious of all UAE business visa types and offers the greatest residency status independence for skilled professionals, independent professionals, freelancers, and small investors.

Key features:

  • A self-sponsored visa with 5-year and 10-year options.
  • Self-sponsored, so your residency is not tied to any single employer or business entity.
  • Covers you, your spouse, children, and in many cases, parents.
  • You can stay outside the UAE for extended periods without your visa being cancelled.

Who Qualifies for the Golden Visa?

  • UAE Golden Visa: A long term residency visa for high-value investors, talented professionals, students, and entrepreneurs.
  • Real estate investors: Minimum property investment of AED 2 million.
  • Business investors: A deposit or investment of AED 2 million in an approved fund or registered UAE company, with eligibility often assessed against the total invested capital across ventures and supporting bank statements.
  • Entrepreneurs: Startups accredited by an approved UAE incubator, or founders who have previously built and sold a company worth at least AED 7 million.
  • Exceptional talents: Recognized professionals in sciences, medicine, engineering, culture, arts, sports, or digital technology.
  • Outstanding students: Top graduates from highly ranked UAE or international universities, with the added benefit of maintaining residency status even when staying outside the UAE for extended periods.

6. Freelance Visa

The freelance visa gives self-employed professionals in technology, media, design, education, and other fields the ability to live and legally work in the UAE with multiple clients. Several UAE free zones issue freelance permits bundled with residency visas. It grants legal residency, lets you invoice clients, open a bank account, and sponsor dependents.

7. Five-Year Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (for Business Purposes)

The UAE’s 5-year multiple entry tourist visa is widely used by business professionals who visit the country repeatedly but do not yet need full residency. Each stay allows you to remain for up to 90 days, with one possible extension of another 90 days without leaving, subject to approval.

How Do I Apply For a UAE Business Visa?

It depends on where you are applying. Dubai applications go through the GDRFA portal or an Amer service center. All other emirates and federal categories (including most Golden Visa applications) go through the ICA portal. If you are working with SRTIP Accelerator, our expert team handles the submission on your behalf.

This is how the UAE business visa application process works:

  1. Choose your visa type. Identify the visa category that matches your purpose.

  2. Gather your documents. Collect all required documents based on your chosen visa type, including your passport, photographs, bank statements, and any business or investment proof.

  3. Submit your application. Apply through the GDRFA portal (Dubai), the ICA portal (other emirates), or through a registered business setup provider like SRTIP Accelerator.

  4. Pay the visa fees. Settle the applicable government fees at the time of submission. Fee amounts vary by visa type and emirate.

  5. Complete your medical fitness test. Once inside the UAE, visit a government-approved medical center. Results are usually ready within 1 to 3 working days.

  6. Submit biometrics for your Emirates ID. Visit an ICP or Amer center to provide your fingerprints and photo for Emirates ID issuance. Once approved, your Emirates ID is issued and acts as your official proof of residency.

What is the UAE Business Visa Cost?

The UAE business visa cost ranges from approximately AED 350 for a short-term visit visa to AED 15,000 or more for a Golden Visa, depending on the visa type, duration, and the emirate you apply through.

How Much Time Does it Take to Get a UAE Business Visa?

A UAE business visa takes anywhere from 2 working days for a short-term entry permit to 60 working days for a full Golden Visa approval, depending on the visa category.

Do I Need to be Physically Present in the UAE to Apply for a Business Visa?

You apply from outside the UAE and receive an e-visa before traveling for short-term visas. For long-term residence visas, you need to be present for the medical fitness test, Emirates ID biometrics, and document signing. Renewals can often be started online, but biometrics may still require an in-person visit.

Can I Start a Business in the UAE on a Visit Visa?

You can attend meetings, conduct market research, and kick off your company registration paperwork on a visit visa. However, you cannot sign contracts, invoice clients, or open a corporate bank account until you have a valid business residence visa.

Can I Sponsor My Family on a UAE Business Visa?

If you hold an investor visa, Green Visa, or Golden Visa, you can sponsor your spouse, children, and in some cases your parents. Standard visas require proof of minimum salary and attested relationship documents. Golden and Green Visa holders face fewer restrictions when sponsoring dependents.

Choosing the right visa comes down to three factors: how long you want to stay, what level of investment you plan to commit, and whether you want a sponsored or self-sponsored route. Getting your documents right, applying through the correct authority, and using experienced visa services in UAE can cut your processing time significantly and reduce the risk of rejection or delays.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can generally perform a "change of status" without leaving the country after your entry permit is issued. This process involves a supplemental fee but allows you to transition directly from a visitor to a resident once your business setup or investment is approved.

The UAE offers a 2-year renewable partner or property investor visa that requires a minimum investment of AED 750,000. To remain eligible for renewal, the investor must continue to own the property.

Standard investor and employment visa holders must enter the UAE at least once every 180 days to keep their residency active. However, Golden Visa holders are exempt from this rule and can stay abroad for any length of time without their residency being cancelled.
